Come and visit the Citadelle de Marseille (also known as Fort Saint Nicolas / Entrecasteaux), a classified Heritage Site since 1969. Overlooking the Vieux-Port, it was never opened to the public until this year. We will take you through History and the ongoing restoration of this five hectares heritage site, offering fascinating views on the entire harbour, the Catalan district and Notre-Dame de la Garde…
What is the ambition of the cultural project shaping up at La Citadelle de Marseille? To restore and transform a classified defensive military fort into a public place opened to all, with a cultural aim and purpose, and sharing its heritage and history with visitors in a sustainable and inclusive way. Be among the first ones to discover this site!
Only open for those guided tours and a few artistic events in 2023, the Citadelle de Marseille will open the doors of its gardens from spring 2024.
Accessibility
The topography of the Citadelle de Marseille, on a rocky spur overlooking the Vieux-Port and its restoration according to the rules linked to its classification as a Heritage Monument, unfortunately make the site very difficult to access for wheelchairs and baby strollers (very steep slopes and cobbled pavement).
